Thundering Thoughts

The Woman in Front of the Weather Wall

Hey y'all! Had to add a bit of southern twang! Welcome to my first blog post - the first of many "Thundering Thoughts" for 2010.

Let me introduce myself. My name is Colleen Coyle. Some of you may know me as the Morning Meteorologist for KPSP Local 2 This Morning - bringing you the latest weather news as you brew your first cup of coffee for the day.

Originally from Atlanta, I have adjusted nicely to the beautiful Coachella Valley! Who can't smile when they wake up to magnificent mountains and palm trees? Before moving here, I only saw palm trees while on vacation! It is truly paradise here.

Almost everyone I meet, asks me this one question.

"How did you get into weather?"

I wish I had an interesting response to tell you - like I tamed a tornado, flew through a hurricane, or invented radar - but unfortunately I do not. What I can tell you is the simplest answer: I found the sky above us the most fascinating thing in the world.

You can ask my parents. Growing up, my friends had dreams of being doctors or astronauts. But me? Nope. I wanted to be a meteorologist. It's funny to think that I knew that at such a young age. Now, years later, I have friends come up to me and say "Wow, you were actually serious." And, yes, I was.

The weather is constantly changing from day to day, and that's what has continued to spark my interest all these years. Stormy days to sunny days - you can get a dose of both in less than 24 hours - just fascinating.

One thing you need to know about me is that I am a bit of a daredevil. I love bungee jumping, roller coasters, and chasing tornadoes.

C'mon, every "weather nerd" wants to go storm-chasing! Experiencing weather first-hand is something that I will never forget. Maybe my next blog should be about my adventures on the road - chasing nature's fury!

Sounds like a plan - stay tuned everyone. Next blog will be complete with photos from my Midwest adventure in Tornado Alley. In the meantime, grab a Starbucks and tune in to KPSP Local 2 This Morning. We dance Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays - our dance parties should give you a bit more incentive to wake up and get going bright and early!

Thanks for reading my first blog and if you have thundering thoughts of your own, leave a comment!
